Snowman Rig
The Snowman Rig is a fantastic way to present critically balanced baits. The almost neutral buoyancy allows it to behave extremely naturally when lying just above the lake bed.
The idea behind the rig is that the small bait at the top of the hair is designed to counteract the buoyant pop-up below.
Start by tying yourself a knotless knot. A handy trick is to measure the hair before you start whipping down the hook so that you can make sure you have enough or a hair to add both of the baits. There’s nothing more frustrating than tying the whole rig, only to find that you don’t have enough space to present the baits correctly.
Add your baits to the hair using your baiting needle and secure with a boilie stop.
Before chucking your rig out to the middle of the lake it is always a good idea to test your rig in the margins to see how it behaves when it is in the water. Depending on the buoyancy of the pop-up you may want to add a small amount of weight to pull the baits towards the lake bed. Either a small shot or tungsten putty works well in this situation.
